How Chocolate Is Made By Large Companies


Did you ever imagine how to large companies make chocolate. Most importantly, they require the kind of money to purchase the necessary equipments and ingredients. Since, there are not many places in the United States to harvest cocoa beans, most large companies depend on the Ivory Coast, Ghana and South America to make chocolate. Cocoa trees tend to produce a fruit similar to melon. The fruit is hand harvested.

There are about 20-40 seeds in a fruit. These seeds are known as cocoa beans and play a major role in the end result. Cocoa beans are very important to make chocolate. The cocoa beans are placed inside huge heaps or piles for fermentation after being removed from the fruit. The process takes more than about a week. This provides through time to harden the shells, darken the beans and the development of the cocoa flavor.

Thereafter, these are transported to the chocolate factors to make chocolate. These days, there are several large companies that import cocoa beans in huge quantities. This makes its' quite practical to transport these beans back to the United States either by air or ship. As soon as the beans reach the dock, these are transferred to rail road cars on the way to the chocolate factory.

These are cleaned and stored thereafter to make chocolate. Chocolates taste unique. The taste varies with the origin of the beans. The primary step to convert beans into chocolate in order to make chocolate is to roast these at high temperatures in huge revolving roasters. The next step to make chocolate is to use a specialized hutting machine in order to dry the beans to facilitate the removal of shell.

The content, 'nib' is used in the process of making chocolate. The next step to make chocolate involve the turning of the 'nibs' into its' liquid form. This process is known as milling. Milling provides that distinctive taste to the chocolate. This is the step where other ingredients are added. These ingredients include cocoa butter, milk, chocolate liquor and sugar. Chocolate liquor is a unique combination of sugar and milk.

The end product is a coarse brown powder known as chocolate crumb. Milk is taken from the farm after being tested and pasteurized. The milk is mixed with sugar till it turns into a thick and taffy material. There is a lot of efforts companies require to make chocolate. Cocoa butter is thrown in to obtain the superb taste and creamy texture of chocolate. Steel rollers are used to make chocolate in order to grind and refine the mixture.

The final result is smoother mixture. Following all the steps mentioned above to make chocolate, the mixture turns in a thick liquid. The liquid is often termed as chocolate paste. However, there are a lot of gritty particles left over. Hence, the mixture is placed inside a conche (a machine) for two to four days. As soon as the paste is smoothened to make chocolate, liquid chocolate is poured into the mould.

The process is known to be really speedy inside a factory. Almonds, peanuts and other nuts can also be added to the chocolate in order the make it unique. The machine used to make chocolate needs to be free of air bubbles in order to settle evenly. Thereafter the liquid is sent through a cooling tunnel to give it a shape of solid candy bar. The final step to make chocolate is to wrap it up in various box and enjoy.
